2019-4-8 Your driver’s license needs to have a new chip in order to fly. The type of ID you need to fly is changing and you probably don’t have the ‘REAL ID’ for Ohio. Already have the RFID. Why don't Pennsylvania driver's licenses qualify? They do not have RFID chips or a federally approved symbol that prevents forgery, and PennDOT does not require the forms of proof called for in. Re: what is the purpose of the RFID chips in drivers licenses Posted by Stuckinthe90s on 1/6/16 at 2:23 pm to HashSlingingSlasher I dont know what they use them for or if its illegal to nuke them. But they can definitely be used to track your movements. The biometric data would make it harder for an individual to use a stolen or forged driver's license for identification. The RFID tags would make the licenses a 'contact-less' technology.
